Cincinnati Area OSHA Office To Increase Crane-Related Inspections
The past weeks has seen an unusual amount of crane-related accidents in the national spotlight. These come on the heels of a similar accident in Cincinnati.
Allied Construction Industries reports that OSHA Area Director Richard Gilgrist requested ACI to advise its members that OSHA will be increasing enforcement on jobsites where cranes are being used. Specifically, Mr. Gilgrist stated,
"I know all of you are probably already edgy with respect to the recent accidents in New York and Miami. Suffice it to say, we are too. There will be increased emphasis and inspection activity on the issues, especially the "jumping" operations of tower cranes, in the coming weeks. Please get this information out to your members and cohorts, and take the appropriate steps, so that none of us will be the subject of the national news."
While this notice specifically impacts the Cincinnati area, it would not be surprising if such increased emphasis is seen in other jurisdictions. Thus, those job sites with cranes should revisit safety regulations to ensure compliance.
